Feeling fresh and fruity!

I did this quick sketch a while ago and liked how the the quick sketchy pen in-fills looked. I decided to see how I could use it on a whole tossed "fruit salad" pattern. With this yummy bright colored palette, I think it turned out pretty nice. Does it make you salivate or want to juggle your nearest pile of fruit?

Really quick sketch (another one created at son's piano lesson)

Lazy Daisys & Paisleys

I love creating paisleys. There are so many different design elements that you can add to the basic paisley curved teardrop shape to make them uniquely yours. Here are a couple that I created in my sketchbook. Matched with a whimsical daisy, I think this pattern came out fresh and fun! I hope you like it, too.

Sketch drawn with micron black pens and a brush pen.

Daisy and Paisley pattern with color added to just the
daisies and the background. Fun!

Whimsical doodling is fun!

I was day dreaming and doodling during my son's piano lesson which led to this pattern. He must have been playing a jazzy piece. Now looking at it, the pattern kind of reminds me notes dancing in and out of each other.

A pattern dedicated to my friend Marilyn Green

I call this pattern Zen Stones and I dedicate it to my friend, Marilyn Green. She is a dedicated beach comber and finds the most beautiful stones on the beach near her home in Sea Ranch, an idyllic community on the Pacific coast in Northern California. This is for you, Marilyn!

Humming birds and flowers come to life

I've been noodling on some bolder motifs using a mix of thick and thin pen nibs. Here are some of the results.

Hearts + handlettering= Love!

Can you tell I'm getting in the mood for Valentine's Day? I absolutely love creating hand crafted typography. As you can see my original sketch was just that, real sketchy. But then came the fun part, hand drawing the motifs with a crow quill pen nib and Higgen's black ink. Throw in some watercolor and voilá, a Valentine pattern!
